2016 Reflections

2016 Reflections

As we pour our champagne and toast to the New Year, we can’t help but to take a moment to look back on all of the weddings we were fortunate to have been a part of in 2016.

A heartfelt thank you to all of the wonderful couples we got to know and trusted us with their most special day and big hugs to all of the talented industry partners we worked with throughout the year.

We hope you enjoy taking a peek at our favorite moments from 2016. Cheers!

We started the year off in sunny Santa Barbara for Brittany & JJ’s destination wedding in February at Bacara Resort & Spa. From the breathtaking ceremony overlooking the bluff to dining al fresco under the stars, this wedding was perfect from sunrise to sunset.

Our next wedding took place in downtown Chicago at the luxurious Langham Hotel. The inspiration for Denise & Scott’s celebration started with the stunning invitation suite by Ceci New York. The design was carried out in every detail from the cake to the mirror boxes on the tables glowing with candlelight.

We were back at the Langham Hotel for Stephanie & Michael’s nuptials in June. Lighting played a key role in the design, including a custom exaggerated “starry night” effect created by video mapping. Candlelight flooded the ceremony aisle and enhanced the simple and elegant tablescapes that also featured clusters of white and green blooms down the length of the feasting tables.

We were blessed with perfect Summer weather in Chicago, allowing our July and August couples to say their vows outside with picture-perfect backdrops.

In July, Eliza & Mike embraced the city’s urban feel with a courtyard ceremony at Artifact Events beneath a gorgeous floral arch created by Vale of Enna. After cocktails outside, guests entered the venue’s new loft space with exposed brick walls and classic hardwood floors. The color palette of peach and fresh greenery from the ceremony was carried through to the mix of round and farm dining tables. In lieu of a traditional wedding cake, this couple opted for a sweet table showcasing Chicago’s finest treats and cut into a Mrs. Fields cookie cake.

Taylor & Ross’ classic country club wedding had us back at one of our favorite spots, Shoreacres Country Club in Lake Bluff. You can’t get much more picturesque than a ceremony overlooking Lake Michigan on a clear Summer day. Guests later moved to the club’s screened-in porch for an intimate dinner and then danced the night away in a sailcloth tent.

August took us to Lake Geneva, Wisconsin for Kristina & Scott’s “pretty in pink” celebration. Kristina was all about sparkle, and sparkle is what she got! From the bouquet her mother made with vintage brooches to crystals dripping from the tall centerpieces, every aspect of the design sparkled.

Our September couples went bold with their color palettes, starting with Amy & Colin’s wedding. Hello Darling perfectly captured Amy’s vision of incorporating her two favorite colors, purple and teal. Tying the design together with silver brought the whole look together.

Perri & Marian embraced color with hues ranging from red to deep merlot. The colors worked well in both of their ceremonies (yes, there were two!), enhancing each church’s rich decor, and were a dramatic contrast to the Langham Hotel‘s neutral grey backdrop.

What happens when two self-proclaimed science nerds meet-cute and fall in love? They get married under the stars at the Adler Planetarium, of course! Abby & Brian’s magical ceremony beneath the Milky Way captured the whimsy of their relationship, along with many fun touches throughout the day.

We finished 2016 with Carolyn & Aron’s classic Chicago wedding. After a formal church ceremony, guests headed to the iconic Drake Hotel for merriment and memories. Carolyn wanted to create a warm atmosphere for her guests with lots of gold touches while also hinting at the holiday season with florals composed of deep red and blush hues accented with tons of fresh greenery. Even Mother Nature cooperated and provided a dusting of snow to make this winter wedding perfect in every way.
