Ceremony Design
In most cases, the first thing guests will experience at your wedding is the ceremony. It’s where you set the tone for your day and the aesthetic should tie in with your overall design as much as possible. It is always important to work with the venue you’ve chosen – not against it.
If you’re fortunate enough to be blessed with beautiful weather and are having an outdoor ceremony, embrace the backdrop designed by Mother Nature herself. The above hydrangea-adorned ceremony arch by Richard Remiard Designs was the perfect spot for Lauren & Max’s outdoor nuptials, while not overpowering the naturally beautiful setting.

For aisle decorations, cap the ends of rows with pretty blossoms.

And don’t forget to have fresh drinks available so your guests can cool off on a hot summer day. This is also a place to literally infuse color into the setting – use fresh ingredients such as cucumber and mint, strawberries, or mixed citrus to make water both pretty and tasty.

Indoor ceremonies will take more design details to enhance (or mask) the existing space. This venue (the Harold Washington Library in Chicago) can come off as “hard” due to the marble floors and high ceilings. To create a more soft and romantic setting, we lined the aisle with fresh rose petals and installed a fabric drape to serve as the backdrop for the ceremony. Hello Darling’s gorgeous arrangements were dripping with lush blooms and loose greenery,
adding even more softness.

Another clever trick is to use your reception centerpieces to line the aisle. Setting them upon lucite pedestals creates a clean and modern feel.

If you are getting married in a house of worship, there are more limited opportunities to add personal flair, making items like programs even more important.
Whether you decide to hold your ceremony indoors or outdoors, small details can make a lasting impression.
