Market Trends
It’s been quite the busy week in New York City for Bridal Market (the wedding industry’s version of Fashion Week). From spotting the latest wedding trends to attending industry events, it was quite a whirlwind!
I was lucky enough to tag along with my good friend Beth Chapman, bridal stylist and owner of The White Dress By the Shore, to some intimate appointments with designers and was able to view some right-off-the-runway dresses up close and personal.
I can barely sleep, with visions of weddings dresses spinning in my head! Here are three trends that dominated the week:
1. Flower Power
This season’s wedding dresses are blooming with floral patterns. Whether subtle or bold, designers are incorporating beautiful floral prints into their gowns.
2. Horsehair For Days
While genuine horsehair was once used, this is now a synthetic material that is sewn into the hems of gowns to give them stability and allows for fullness at the bottom of the dress. Almost every non-sheath dress I saw featured it. I love when this element is added, as it gives the dress movement while still keeping the structure of the gown intact.
3. Colorful Options
Soft hues of blush entered bridal world a few years ago, giving brides a wonderful alternative to the traditional white. This breakthrough has paved the way for colors such as peach, rose, and even blue in this season’s wedding gown designs.
Additional highlights of my trip included meeting the one and only Miss Hayley Paige and attending The Knot Gala at the New York Public Library, planned by friends Xochitl Gonzalez and Mayra Castillo of AaB Creates. (Of course once I received the gorgeous invitation by Ceci New York I was inspired — and determined! — to find a dress that complemented it.)
Looking forward to seeing which of these trends my brides will embrace next year!
